After a year of training and becoming "technician - gunner of super-heavy artillery", Viktor Ivanovich arrived at the front.
During the war, Viktor Ivanovich participated in battles on the Southern, Belarusian, and 4th Ukrainian fronts, obtaining the rank of lieutenant of an artillery regiment.
He participated in battles for the liberation of Sevastopol. He served as an artillery man.
