Vasily Vasilyevich VERTEL

In July 1941, Vasily Vasilyevich Vertel volunteered for frontline duty, was sent to the 3rd Airborne Corps to the Pyatigorsk area. In May 1942, the corps was transformed into the 33rd Rifle Division and sent to defend Stalingrad. After the defeat of the fascist troops outside Stalingrad, he participated in the battles for the liberation of the Rostov Oblast, offensive battles on the Mius-Front, the liberation of Donbas and Crimea, the heaviest assault battles for Sevastopol, he fought in Belarus, Lithuania, East Prussia.

He participated in the liberation of Sevastopol in the rank of guards lieutenant as a commander of an on-foot reconnaissance platoon with the 88th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 33rd Rifle Division.
