Vasily Pitirimovich PONOMAREV

Vasily Pitirimovich Ponomarev was called to the front in August 1942 by the Ukhta City Recruiting Station. After completing 4 months of training at the regimental school, in 1943 he was sent to the front with the marching company.

Many cities of Russia and Ukraine had he passed on the roads of war: Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Novocherkassk, Krasnodon, and others. In the battles on the outskirts of the Donbas, he was wounded and taken to the hospital. He participated in the battles on the Southern and 4th Ukrainian fronts, went from Melitopol through Perekop and Crimea to Sevastopol. He met the victory in Crimea.

By Order of April 11, 1944, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Marshal of the Soviet Union, Comrade Stalin, commended V. P. Ponomarev for excellent combat actions to break through the German defense on the Isthmus of Perekop, and by Order of May 10, 1944- commended for excellent actions in the battles for the liberation of the city of Sevastopol.
